In a heartbreaking incident in Panchkula, Haryana, Praveen Mittal and six members of his family were found dead in a car parked outside a residence. The discovery was made on Sunday when local residents noticed the family members unconscious inside the vehicle. Efforts to revive them led to the rescue of one individual who was still breathing. Tragically, he revealed that the family was “drowning in debt” and had consumed poison, stating, “I will die in five minutes as I have also consumed poison.”

Praveen, originally from Barwala in Hisar, had relocated to Panchkula 12 years ago. He owned a scrap factory in Himachal Pradesh, which was seized by the bank due to unpaid loans, leaving the family with a staggering debt of Rs 20 crore. According to Praveen’s cousin, Sandeep Agarwal, the mounting financial pressure forced the family to leave Hisar and move to Dehradun. Sandeep noted that Praveen had not been in contact with anyone for five years, a situation exacerbated by constant death threats related to their financial struggles.

The family had settled near Saketri village in Panchkula, where Praveen was working as a taxi driver to support them. Sandeep revealed that the bank had already seized Praveen’s two flats, his factory, and his vehicles. Just five days prior to the tragedy, Sandeep spoke with Praveen, who requested that he perform the last rites as mentioned in a suicide note left behind. The police confirmed the existence of this note, highlighting the family’s desperate situation.

This tragic event underscores the severe impact of financial distress and the urgent need for support systems for individuals facing overwhelming debt.
