In a harrowing incident of dowry-related abuse in Madhya Pradesh, a 23-year-old woman managed to escape from her husband after enduring severe torture. The incident occurred in Khargone district, where the victim, Khushboo Pipliya, reported that her husband, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, subjected her to brutal treatment, including tying her up and burning her with a heated knife.

The abuse reportedly stemmed from Khushboo’s inability to meet her husband’s dowry demands, which he had expressed dissatisfaction with since their marriage in February of this year. Following a night of torment, during which her husband inflicted multiple burn injuries across her body, Khushboo found a way to free herself early Monday morning. She borrowed a mobile phone from a household worker to alert her family, who quickly took her to the district hospital in Awarkachh for medical treatment.

Upon arrival at the hospital, the police were notified of Khushboo’s condition. A senior officer confirmed that she had suffered severe burns inflicted by her husband. In her statement to the police, Khushboo detailed the abuse, explaining that her husband had threatened her and expressed his disdain for her, claiming she was unwanted due to her parents’ role in their marriage.

On the night of the attack, Khushboo described how her husband first assaulted her physically before dragging her into the kitchen, where he tied her hands and feet. He then used a heated knife to burn her in several places while making derogatory remarks about her worth. Other family members were reportedly present during the assault but did not intervene.

After managing to escape around 4:30 AM, Khushboo’s father, Lokesh Verma, was informed of the situation and sent her brother to bring her home. They subsequently reported the incident to the Mengaon police station, where they faced intimidation from individuals allegedly connected to her husband.

Lokesh Verma emphasized that the attack was motivated by his son-in-law’s dislike for Khushboo and his demands for dowry. He has called for justice for his daughter and for strict action against her husband.

The police are currently investigating the case, gathering statements to fully understand the circumstances surrounding this brutal incident. The community is rallying for justice, highlighting the urgent need to address dowry-related violence in society.
