**Headline:** Tirupati Duck Rearer Arrested for Bonded Labor and Secret Burial of Child

In a shocking case from Tirupati, a duck rearer and his family have been arrested for allegedly detaining a tribal woman and her three children as bonded laborers. The accused are also facing serious charges for reportedly burying the woman’s son in secret after demanding he stay behind as “collateral” for a loan of Rs 25,000.

The victim, identified as Anakamma, is a member of the vulnerable Yanadi tribal community. She, along with her husband Chenchaiah and their three children, began working under harsh conditions after borrowing money from the accused. Following Chenchaiah’s death, the lender purportedly refused to release the family unless the debt, which had ballooned to Rs 45,000 due to interest, was repaid.

Desperate to escape the situation, Anakamma was told she could only leave if she left one of her children behind as a guarantee. With no other options, she reluctantly agreed. Her son, who remained with the accused, maintained intermittent phone contact with her, often pleading for help and describing the abusive labor conditions he faced. The last communication between them occurred on April 12. After arranging to repay the debt by the end of April, Anakamma returned to retrieve her child, only to be met with a series of evasive responses from the duck rearer and his family. They initially claimed the boy had been sent away, then stated he was hospitalized, and finally asserted that he had run away.

Concerned for her son’s safety, Anakamma reached out to local tribal leaders and subsequently filed a police complaint. During police questioning, the duck rearer confessed that the boy had died and had been buried secretly near his in-laws’ home in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. Authorities exhumed the body in Anakamma’s presence, and the Tirupati District Collector confirmed that the child had been taken to a hospital, allegedly suffering from jaundice. However, the clandestine burial and the failure to inform the family have raised serious questions about the circumstances surrounding the boy’s death.

The police have charged the duck rearer, his wife, and their son under various laws, including the Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act, the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, the Juvenile Justice Act, and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. A post-mortem examination is currently underway to determine the exact cause of death.
