In a troubling incident in Ahmedabad, a woman was defrauded of Rs 87,000 while attempting to secure a refund of just Rs 24 for a vegetable order. The housewife had ordered eggplants through a quick commerce platform three days prior, but received larger eggplants instead of her requested item. When she approached the delivery boy for a refund, he refused and advised her to contact customer support.

Unable to obtain the customer care number from the delivery partner, the woman searched online and inadvertently connected with an individual who provided her with a different contact number for filing a complaint. Upon calling this number, she was informed that she would receive a WhatsApp call for further assistance.

During the WhatsApp call, the caller assured her that her refund was being processed and sent her a link to track it. However, when she attempted to log in to the link, it prompted her for her bank account details. Trusting the process, she provided the information and later tried to check her refund balance using her UPI password. To her dismay, no refund had been issued.

When she called the same number again, she was instructed to check the balances of her other bank accounts. It was then that she discovered she had been scammed out of Rs 87,000. The woman promptly reported the incident to local police, who have since launched an investigation into the case.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the increasing prevalence of online scams, particularly those targeting individuals seeking refunds or customer support. Consumers are urged to exercise caution and verify the legitimacy of any contact information provided during such transactions.
