AAP calls Modi’s New Year gift to the public: Rs 111 price increase on commercial LPG cylinders

**Commercial LPG Prices Surge: A New Year’s Gift from the Modi Government**

In a recent move, oil marketing companies have increased the price of 19-kg commercial LPG gas cylinders by Rs 111, marking a significant rise that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has labeled a “New Year’s gift” from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This price hike, effective Thursday, brings the cost of commercial LPG to its highest level since June of the previous year.

The AAP took to social media platform X to criticize the central government, stating, “A New Year’s gift to the people of the country from the Modi government.” The new price for a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder in Delhi now stands at Rs 1,691.50. In addition, the cost of 5-kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinders has also risen by Rs 27.

Despite the increase in commercial LPG prices, the price of the 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder remains unchanged at Rs 853, a rate that was last adjusted in April 2025. This latest price adjustment follows two months of reductions, with the last decrease of Rs 15.50 per 19-kg cylinder occurring on December 1.

The recent price hike is attributed to increased global LPG rates driven by heightened winter heating demands, which have countered the recent moderation in oil prices. However, domestic LPG prices, primarily used for cooking, have remained stable despite these international pressures.

In contrast, aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices have seen a notable reduction. The price of jet fuel in Delhi has been cut by Rs 7,353.75 per kilolitre, a decrease of 7.3%, bringing the new price to Rs 92,323.02 per kilolitre. This reduction follows three months of consecutive price hikes, with the last increase recorded on December 1.

The ATF price cut effectively reverses more than two-thirds of the cumulative price increase since October 1, which is expected to alleviate operational costs for airlines, as fuel accounts for nearly 40% of their overall expenses. Revised ATF prices in other major cities include Rs 86,352.19 per kilolitre in Mumbai, Rs 95,770 in Chennai, and Rs 95,378.02 in Kolkata.

Meanwhile, petrol and diesel prices have remained stable following a Rs 2 per-litre reduction in March of the previous year. In Delhi, petrol is priced at Rs 94.72 per litre, while diesel costs Rs 87.62 per litre. Other metro cities reflect similar stability in fuel prices.

As oil marketing companies continue to adjust LPG and ATF prices on the first day of each month based on international benchmarks and exchange rates, consumers are left to navigate the implications of these changes on their daily expenses.
