According to a Union Minister, hospitals impose charges but fail to provide adequate security, in response to the shooting incident in Patna.

**Private Hospitals Blamed for Security Lapses After Patna Shooting Incident**

In a recent incident at Paras Hospital in Patna, Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi has criticized private hospitals for their inadequate security measures following a shooting that left an undertrial gangster in critical condition. The incident occurred late Sunday night when five armed assailants entered the hospital and opened fire on Chandan Mishra, who was admitted on parole from Buxar jail. Manjhi emphasized that while private facilities charge patients substantial fees, they fail to invest in necessary safety protocols.

“This is a gang war. No sadhu was shot, and it wasn’t a government hospital,” Manjhi stated, asserting that the government cannot be held accountable for violence occurring in private establishments. He further noted that had the shooting taken place in a government facility, immediate action would have been taken. “Now that it has happened, action will be taken,” he added.

The shooting, which was captured on CCTV, shows the attackers calmly walking through the hospital corridors before targeting Mishra in his room. The assailants managed to escape without facing any resistance, raising concerns about the effectiveness of the hospital’s security measures. Inspector General of Police (Patna Central Range) Jitendra Rana confirmed that the attack appears to stem from inter-gang rivalry and acknowledged the need to investigate the hospital’s private security system.

The incident has sparked significant political backlash, with Purnea MP Pappu Yadav calling for President’s Rule in Bihar, claiming that the safety of medical staff and patients is compromised under the current government. RJD spokesperson Mrityunjay Tiwari also criticized the Nitish Kumar-led administration, accusing it of capitulating to criminal elements.

As the investigation unfolds, the focus remains on the responsibilities of private healthcare facilities in ensuring the safety of their patients and staff amidst rising gang violence in the region.
