Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Rachaad White is reportedly a victim of alleged extortion, according to a statement from his attorneys on Tuesday. Lawyers Michelle Gervais and TJ Grimaldi indicated that the FBI and other relevant authorities are currently investigating the situation. “Illegal and defamatory threats and demands against Rachaad and his family will be met with zero tolerance,” the attorneys stated. “We will pursue all legal avenues to safeguard Rachaad’s rights as a victim of extortion.”
White started the season as the Buccaneers’ primary running back but gradually lost his position to rookie Bucky Irving. In 2023, White rushed for 990 yards on 272 carries, but his performance declined to 144 attempts and 613 yards as Irving took over the lead role.
White recently completed his third NFL season after being selected in the third round of the draft from Arizona State. Irving, also a third-round pick, achieved 1,122 yards and eight touchdowns on 207 rushing attempts. The Buccaneers won the NFC South but were eliminated in the divisional round by the Washington Commanders, who advanced to the conference title game. In that 23-20 loss to the Commanders, White had only three touches.
There is speculation that White may become a salary-cap casualty for the Buccaneers, especially with Sean Tucker emerging as a contributor in the backfield later in the season.
