**Headline:** Investigation into Alleged Mass Burials in Dharmasthala Yields No Evidence

The ongoing investigation into alleged mass burials in Dharmasthala, Karnataka, has not uncovered any human remains at the second site examined, according to police sources. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has now shifted its focus to a third location in the search for evidence.

The initial exhumation took place on Tuesday along the banks of the Nethravathi River, where the whistleblower in the case was present. Despite the efforts of police officials, forensic experts, and revenue department personnel, who utilized a JCB machine to dig deeper due to water seepage, no remains were discovered. The second site also yielded no findings, leading the team to proceed to a third location.

This investigation follows the whistleblower’s identification of 15 potential sites associated with mass burials and cremations. Reports indicate that eight of these sites are situated along the Nethravathi River, while others are located near the highway adjacent to the river. The 13th site is on the road connecting Nethravathi to Aajukuri, with the remaining two found in the Kanyadi area near the highway.

In related news, Pranob Mohanty, who leads the SIT, has been empaneled for DGP-level positions within the central government. This is understood to be a routine annual process rather than a deputation, making him eligible for senior roles at the national level should he decide to transition.

Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara addressed the situation, stating, “If he opts for Central service, we are examining whether he can continue in the SIT even after that. If the need arises to appoint another officer, we will discuss it. We will act as per the legal provisions. If a change is required, we will appoint someone of his rank to lead the investigation.”

As the investigation continues, the SIT remains committed to uncovering the truth behind the allegations of mass burials in the region.
