In a significant operation against drug trafficking, the Assam Rifles successfully seized a substantial consignment of methamphetamine tablets weighing 11.110 kilograms in the Champhai district of Mizoram on Thursday. This operation was initiated following specific intelligence reports indicating the presence of illegal drugs in the Zote area.

The Assam Rifles team conducted a thorough search, leading to the recovery of the narcotics, which are valued at approximately Rs. 33.33 crore in the international market. The seized methamphetamine tablets have been handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department in Champhai for further investigation and legal proceedings.

This seizure comes just a week after the Assam Rifles intercepted a large shipment of smuggled alcohol near National Highway-37 in Awangkhul, Manipur. Acting on actionable intelligence, the team confiscated 1,430 cases containing over 32,000 bottles and cans of various liquors, estimated to be worth around Rs 1 crore. Two drivers involved in the transport of this consignment were arrested and subsequently transferred to the state police.
