Astro Bot leads the BAFTA Games rankings, followed closely by a psychological horror game.

**Astro Bot Triumphs at BAFTA Games Awards with Five Wins**

Astro Bot emerged as the standout winner at this year’s BAFTA Games Awards, securing five prestigious awards, including the highly sought-after Best Game. This 3D platformer, which debuted to widespread acclaim in September to celebrate PlayStation’s 30th anniversary, received eight nominations in total. In contrast, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II led the nominations with eleven.

The awards ceremony took place at London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall, hosted by comedian Phil Wang for the second consecutive year. Critics, some of whom hailed Astro Bot as a “perfect game,” were vindicated as it swept the awards. Team Asobi, the developers behind Astro Bot, crafted multiple galaxies and numerous levels for players to explore, where they collect spaceship parts and rescue lost robots.

Nicolas Doucet, president of Team Asobi, shared insights with Sky News about their diverse team, which comprises over 12 nationalities. He emphasized the importance of cultural sensitivity in humor, stating, “We do a lot of jokes in the game, but the joke has a different meaning depending on where you are in the world. It’s really nice to ask everyone, ‘Is that joke fine in your country?’ and together we create a kind of universal playfulness.”

In contrast, the psychological horror game Still Wakes The Deep, which won three awards for Best New Intellectual Property and Best Supporting and Leading Roles, created a different atmosphere. This game, likened to John Carpenter’s 1980 sci-fi horror The Thing, places players in the role of an electrician trapped on a damaged oil rig while being pursued by monsters.

The Chinese Room, the developer behind Still Wakes The Deep, received praise for utilizing local talent for voice acting, including comedian and actress Karen Dunbar, who won Best Performer in a Supporting Role for her portrayal of Finlay.

As the gaming industry continues to evolve, the recognition of diverse narratives and innovative gameplay at the BAFTA Games Awards highlights the growing importance of creativity and cultural representation in video games.
