Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre shared a brief reaction on social media regarding Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers’ proposal to replace the term “mother” with “inseminated person.” This suggestion was part of a broader budget recommendation from Evers’ administration, which also included changing other gendered terms such as “paternity” to “parentage,” “wife” or “husband” to “spouse,” and “father” to “parent.” The term “mother” was suggested to be replaced with “parent who gave birth to the child.” The phrase “inseminated person” would specifically refer to individuals undergoing artificial insemination, as reported by the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
In response to the proposal, Favre simply stated “Nonsense” on X, accompanied by a disappointed emoji. Evers has faced significant criticism for these proposed changes. Sara Craig, executive director of the Republican Governors Association, expressed her discontent, stating, “Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers’ latest left-wing push isn’t just out of touch, it’s offensive to mothers. Being a mother is the greatest privilege I will have in my lifetime, and every mother I know feels the same. If Tony Evers can reduce motherhood to an ‘inseminated person,’ then our society is lost.”
When introducing his budget proposal, Evers highlighted plans to eliminate income tax on tips, prevent property tax increases for homeowners, and enhance the state’s infrastructure, but he did not address the controversial language changes in his remarks.
