Buffy is returning: Sarah Michelle Gellar hints at the comeback of the vampire-hunting television series.

Sarah Michelle Gellar has addressed rumors regarding a revival of “Buffy The Vampire Slayer,” confirming that the beloved nineties TV series is making a comeback. The actress, who portrayed Buffy Summers, shared insights into her decision to revisit her role as a slayer nearly 22 years after the show’s conclusion.

Originally created by writer and director Joss Whedon, the series featured Gellar, now 47, as one of many young women destined to combat evil in the fictional town of Sunnydale. Gellar took to Instagram to announce her participation in the revival, though she did not specify whether it would be a reboot or a sequel.

In her post, she recounted a conversation with director Chloe Zhao three years ago, which began as a brief coffee meeting but evolved into a four-hour discussion filled with laughter and tears, centered on the significance of the show to both of them. Initially, Gellar was hesitant to continue Buffy’s story, but she eventually surprised herself by agreeing to keep the dialogue going, leading to the development of an idea.

Recent reports indicate that Gellar is in “final talks” to reprise her iconic role, although she will not be the lead in the new series, which is expected to focus on a new slayer. Sources have also suggested that the sequel is close to receiving a pilot order from Hulu.

“Buffy The Vampire Slayer” aired for seven seasons from 1997 to 2003, concluding with its final episode in May 2003. The show also featured British actor Anthony Stewart Head as Giles, Buffy’s Watcher, alongside her friends Willow and Xander, played by Alyson Hannigan and Nicholas Brendon, respectively. The series was so successful that it led to the creation of a spin-off centered on the character Angel, a cursed vampire who was Buffy’s love interest.
