**Honeycomb Asset Management Returns Client Capital Amid Market Concerns**
Honeycomb Asset Management, a hedge fund established in 2016 by David Fiszel, a former Point72 Asset Management executive, is in the process of returning capital to its investors. Fiszel expressed his lack of optimism regarding the current market conditions, which have recently reached new highs. As of December, Honeycomb managed over $552 million, including leverage, according to regulatory filings.
In a letter to investors, Fiszel emphasized the importance of patience in investment decisions, stating, “Often, the hardest decision is to do less and remain patient.” He acknowledged the opportunity cost of capital and stressed that it should only be deployed when it is most advantageous. “It is my wish to avoid loss of capital first and foremost,” he added.
Despite a “modestly positive” performance this year following two years of 18% gains, Honeycomb has adopted a more selective investment strategy, resulting in significantly lower gross and net exposure. The firm liquidated most of its stock-picking portfolio last month and plans to return the majority of investor capital by September.
Fiszel, who was once among the top-performing managers at Point72, began his career with the firm in 2000 when it was known as SAC Capital. After a brief stint managing his own hedge fund, Rhombus Capital Management, he returned to SAC in 2008 before founding Honeycomb in 2015. The firm will continue to manage client investments in longer-duration private positions, and Fiszel will maintain his investment alongside clients, sharing select opportunities as they arise.
“This is not an exit from investing. It is a reaffirmation of principle,” Fiszel stated. He aims to deploy capital only when the risk-reward ratio is clearly justified.
