India’s luxury retail sector is undergoing significant transformation as DS Luxury, the luxury retail division of Dharampal Satyapal Group Ltd, prepares to launch 30 new stores by 2027-28. This expansion is driven by a growing demand for luxury goods, particularly in tier-2 cities, where the allure of brand logos remains strong.

With the increasing appetite for high-end fashion and accessories in India, DS Luxury is set to enhance its footprint across the country. Ritesh Kumar, the director of DS Luxury, shared insights into the company’s strategy during a recent interview, highlighting the potential for new luxury malls in India, which currently lack adequate infrastructure. “We aim to establish as many as 30 stores nationwide by then,” Kumar stated.

The company is adapting to changing consumer preferences, noting the rise of the “quiet luxury” trend while acknowledging that brand logos still hold significant status. Currently, DS Luxury offers a selection of seven luxury menswear brands, including Tom Ford, Berluti, Brioni, and Brunello Cucinelli, primarily in luxury malls in Delhi. The introduction of Tom Ford to the Indian market in 2010 marked a significant milestone for the brand.

In addition to menswear, DS Luxury has recently expanded its offerings to include women’s accessories and shoes, launching the brand Aquazzura late last year and introducing Italian fashion label Eleventy Milano this month at The Lodhi Hotel in Delhi.

Looking ahead, DS Luxury is developing a multi-brand retail concept in partnership with an international collaborator, with initial launches planned in major cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru. Kumar explained that this new format will serve as a concept outlet, making it easier for brands not yet present in India to enter the market. This approach will also facilitate the company’s expansion into tier-2 cities, where luxury mall infrastructure is still in its infancy.

The multi-brand format not only allows for broader market access but also mitigates risks associated with the short lifecycle of luxury brands. “Having a multi-brand store helps reduce the risk for both us and the brands before they launch in a mono-brand format,” Kumar added.

As DS Luxury embarks on this ambitious expansion, the company is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of luxury retail in India.
