Former WWE athlete alleged to have tried to purchase child pornography

**Ex-WWE Wrestler Indicted for Attempted Child Exploitation in Tennessee**

An ex-WWE wrestler has been indicted by a grand jury in Tennessee for allegedly attempting to purchase child pornography. Michael Droese, known in the wrestling world as Duke “The Dumpster” Droese, faces a charge of attempted sexual exploitation of a minor. The indictment was announced by District Attorney General Chris Stanford of the 31st Judicial District.

According to the press release, Droese attempted to buy child sexual assault material on the dark web using a Coinbase account on April 21, 2024. The transaction was flagged and subsequently terminated by the company. The FBI was alerted to the attempted purchase, leading to an investigation by the Warren County Sheriff’s Department, which involved the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

Droese voluntarily surrendered after the grand jury’s indictment and was booked at the Warren County Sheriff’s Department. He was released after posting a $10,000 bond. The release indicated that Droese had been involved with the 31st Judicial District Adult Recovery Court Program, where he served as a DUI coordinator. However, he did not work with children during his tenure and has since been terminated from his position.

Previously, a 2009 WWE article noted that Droese had relocated to Tennessee after his wrestling career and worked as an elementary school teacher for special education students. His teaching career ended in 2013 when he was forced to resign after selling oxycodone to an undercover officer.

Droese is scheduled for an arraignment hearing in Warren County Circuit Court on May 28. If convicted, he could face a prison sentence ranging from two to four years.
