Holy waters and ceremonies: How startups are profiting from the virtual Kumbh surge.

Startups are capitalizing on the spiritual fervor of the Maha Kumbh Mela by introducing innovative services, including personalized puja and Maha Daan offerings, with their standout product being Triveni Sangam Jal. These companies are merging tradition with technology, providing options like bottled Ganga water and virtual pujas to enhance participation in this significant spiritual event, which commenced on January 13.

Sri Mandir, a spiritual-tech startup, invites devotees to “Conduct sacred rituals in Maha Kumbh from anywhere in the world!” The founder, Prashant Sachan, shares that the inspiration for their services came from personal experiences of seeking Ganga jal from visitors to Kumbh. Their flagship product, Triveni Sangam Jal, is priced at ₹251 for a 100 ml bottle, and demand has surged, with 25,000 bottles ordered in just ten days, predominantly from individuals under 35.

Another startup, Astroyogi, also provides Triveni Sangam Jal and prashad sourced directly from the Maha Kumbh, selling around 500 bottles daily nationwide. They offer live streaming of significant events, including the Maha Kumbh aarti, with over 50% of viewers being Gen Z.

Utsav, another spiritual-tech company, reports a high demand for bottled Ganga water, with 99% of the 6,000 users of their services purchasing at least one bottle. They facilitate rituals like pitru tarpan and Ganga Abhishek through their priests at Kumbh, catering to the spiritual needs of their customers in a modern and accessible manner.
