‘In appreciation of your unwavering smile and lack of complaints’: Nikhil Kamath from Zerodha writes a touching message to Nithin on his EY award win.

Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath took to X to commend his brother, Nithin Kamath, following his recognition as the EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2024. Nikhil celebrated Nithin and his wife, Seema Patil, for their unwavering perseverance and dedication in the face of numerous challenges. He remarked, “One year after losing our father, surviving cancer and a brain stroke, for never complaining and always smiling, you deserve another kind of award altogether.”

Nithin Kamath, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Zerodha, earned the EOY award for his innovative contributions to the brokerage sector through his self-funded company. Nikhil further emphasized the importance of positivity, stating, “In a world filled with glass half empty folk, we need more glass half full.”

The Kamath brothers founded Zerodha by pooling their resources, and the company has since achieved a billion-dollar valuation. Nithin is also known for supporting startups in the fintech and climate sectors and advocating for various social initiatives.

Despite his professional success, Nithin has faced significant personal challenges, including a brain stroke and the loss of a family member. His wife, Seema Patil, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2021 but was declared cancer-free after a year of treatment. Tragically, Nikhil lost their father in 2023, and in 2024, Nithin experienced a mild stroke unexpectedly.

In February 2024, Nithin shared details about his stroke on Instagram, attributing it to factors such as the loss of his father, poor sleep, exhaustion, dehydration, and overexertion. He described his recovery journey, stating, “I’ve gone from having a big droop in the face and not being able to read or write to having a slight droop but being able to read and write more. From being absent-minded to more present-minded. So, 3 to 6 months for full recovery.”
