In a tragic incident on Wednesday evening, four children from Darwha, Maharashtra, drowned in a pit filled with rainwater that had been excavated for a railway bridge as part of the Wardha–Yavatmal–Nanded project. The victims, identified as Rehan Aslam Khan (13), Golu Pandurang Narnavare (10), Somya Satish Khadsan (10), and Vaibhav Ashish Bodhle (14), were playing near the construction site when the accident occurred.

The incident took place within the premises of the under-construction Darwha railway station, where deep pits had been dug for bridge pillars. Recent heavy rainfall had filled these pits with water, creating a dangerous situation. Local residents have expressed their concerns regarding the lack of safety measures and protective barriers around the construction site, which they believe contributed to the tragedy.

According to eyewitness accounts, the group of children entered one of the water-filled pits to bathe. As they ventured deeper, they began to struggle and ultimately lost consciousness. Nearby residents quickly responded to the emergency, attempting to rescue the children and transporting them to Darwha Sub-District Hospital. Unfortunately, despite efforts to save them, the children were later declared dead at Sanjivani Hospital in Yavatmal.

This heartbreaking incident has sparked outrage among the local community, highlighting the urgent need for improved safety protocols at construction sites to prevent such tragedies in the future.
