Jayden Daniels and Jared Verse were honored with the Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year Awards at the NFL Honors ceremony held in New Orleans on Thursday night. Daniels, selected as the second overall pick from LSU after a standout Heisman Trophy-winning season, made an immediate impact on the field. He passed for 3,568 yards and 25 touchdowns, achieving a 69% completion rate, which earned him a Pro Bowl selection. Additionally, he rushed for 891 yards and six touchdowns, converting 55 first downs with his running ability.
Under Daniels’ leadership, the Washington Commanders experienced the most significant turnaround in the NFL, improving from a 4-13 record to 12-5 and securing a playoff spot. The team also celebrated its first postseason victory in 19 years, notably defeating the top-seeded Detroit Lions. Although the NFC Championship ended in a disappointing 55-23 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, the future looks promising for the franchise.
Verse, the 19th overall pick from Florida State, marked the Los Angeles Rams’ first first-round selection since 2016, and they certainly made a wise choice. In his inaugural NFL season, he earned a Pro Bowl nod and showcased his skills by returning a fumble 57 yards for a touchdown during the wild card round against the Minnesota Vikings. Starting in all but one game, Verse tallied 66 tackles, 18 quarterback hits, 11 tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks, along with two pass deflections and two fumble recoveries.
He is the first Rams player to receive this award since Aaron Donald in 2014, signaling a positive omen for his future career. His teammate Braden Fiske was also nominated, indicating a strong defensive outlook for the Rams moving forward.
