Kotak AMC aims to secure an additional ₹800 crore for its new credit fund following an initial fundraising of ₹1,200 crore.

**Kotak Credit Opportunities Fund Focuses on Stable Investments**

The Kotak Credit Opportunities Fund, which launched two months ago, is strategically designed to lend to companies with stable cash flows, sufficient scale, and a proven track record. The fund specializes in financing special situations such as acquisitions, exits for financial investors, warrant exercises, corporate reorganizations, and family-owned businesses undergoing settlements. Notably, it avoids lending to companies reliant on uncertain back-ended events like IPOs or refinancing.

Saurabh Tripathi, Chief Investment Officer at Kotak Mahindra Asset Management Company, announced that the fund aims to raise an additional ₹800 crore from high-net-worth individuals and firms, following an initial successful raise of ₹1,200 crore. The fund operates with a fixed tenure of five years, after which the capital will be returned to investors.

Tripathi anticipates that India’s private credit market will grow to approximately 1-1.5% of GDP by 2030, driven by demographic advantages and global uncertainties that position India as an attractive investment destination. He also noted that a less favorable IPO market is likely to increase demand for alternative capital, as private equity investors seek exits and promoters aim to avoid dilution.

In 2024, India recorded private credit deals totaling $9.2 billion across 163 transactions, reflecting a 7% increase in value, according to an EY report. Tripathi predicts consolidation among smaller private credit funds as rising investor interest leads to reduced returns. He believes that only large, institutionally-backed firms with robust underwriting capabilities, like Kotak Mahindra AMC, will thrive, while smaller boutique firms may face significant challenges.

The fund is optimistic about growth in sectors such as power, sustainability, value-added products, and APIs over the next 5-10 years, citing reliable cash flows, favorable policy developments, and a supportive market environment as key factors.
