**Headline:** Sen. John Cornyn Presses IOC for Ban on Biological Males in Women’s Sports

Senator John Cornyn of Texas has formally urged the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to solidify its ban on biological males participating in women’s sports. In a letter addressed to IOC President Kirsty Coventry, Cornyn emphasized the importance of establishing a clear policy that safeguards fair competition for female athletes.

Recent reports indicate that the IOC is preparing to implement a new policy that would prevent transgender female athletes from competing against biological women, including those with differences of sex development (DSD). Cornyn noted that while discussions are ongoing, the working group appears to be leaning towards a comprehensive ban on biological males in female events.

“I urge the IOC to move swiftly toward a clear and decisive policy that protects fair and safe competition for women and prohibits biological males from competing in female categories,” Cornyn stated. He highlighted the urgency of this matter as the 2026 Winter Olympics approach, along with preparations for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

With the Winter Games set to begin in February, Cornyn stressed the need for timely action, stating, “As the IOC continues its deliberations, this issue has become a global policy concern and a question of athletic integrity.” He referenced former President Trump’s Executive Order 1420, which aimed to keep biological males out of women’s sports, reinforcing the belief that women’s sports should be reserved for biological females.

Coventry previously expressed the need to “protect” the women’s category, noting that there was significant support among IOC members for this initiative. “We understand that there’ll be differences depending on the sport … but it was very clear from the members that we have to protect the female category, first and foremost to ensure fairness,” she remarked.

The IOC is expected to announce the new policy in February, just ahead of the Winter Olympics, marking a pivotal moment in the ongoing debate over gender and competition in sports.
