**Mumbai Techie Recovers Stolen Phone in Varanasi After Police Inaction**

A Mumbai-based software engineer successfully tracked down her stolen mobile phone in Varanasi after it was snatched from her at Assi Ghat, leading to the suspension of a local police outpost in-charge for negligence. The incident occurred last week while Ankita Gupta was visiting Varanasi with her family. Amid the bustling crowd at Assi Ghat, an unidentified individual allegedly stole her phone and vanished.

After filing a police complaint, Gupta, with the help of friends, managed to trace the phone’s location to a house in the Manduadih area. She promptly informed the police with the details of the location. Acting on her tip-off, a police team conducted a raid at the identified house, successfully recovering Gupta’s phone along with 12 other stolen mobile devices.

In the aftermath of the recovery, Deputy Commissioner of Police Gaurav Kumar initiated an internal inquiry, which revealed negligence on the part of the Assi police outpost in-charge. As a result, the officer was suspended on January 4.

This incident highlights the importance of community involvement in crime resolution and raises questions about police responsiveness in theft cases.
