**Headline:** Priyanka Gandhi Urges Swift Action to Restore Thamarassery Pass Following Mudslide

Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi has reached out to Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, calling for urgent measures to restore traffic on the Thamarassery Pass in Kerala, which has been blocked by a significant mudslide. This vital route, described by Gandhi as “the only refuge of Wayanad people,” is crucial for local residents, particularly for accessing essential services in Kozhikode district.

In her letter, Gandhi emphasized the severe hardships faced by the people of Wayanad due to the disruption, which affects their ability to seek medical care and other necessities. She urged the central government to dispatch an expert committee immediately to assess the situation and recommend preventive measures against future mudslides on the Thamarassery Pass road.

Additionally, the MP called for the development of an alternative route that could be utilized during emergencies, stressing the need for prompt action. She also referenced a high-level meeting led by Rahul Gandhi in November 2023, where officials were instructed to expedite several infrastructure projects, including the Poozhithodu–Pandijarathara road and the Churam bypass, as well as to address the hazardous sharp bends that complicate travel on the Thamarassery Pass.

In response to the mudslide, the district administration has decided to allow small vehicles to use the pass only during dry weather, while heavy vehicles will remain prohibited until further notice. The mudslide incident occurred on Tuesday evening, when large rocks and soil fell onto the road near the Lakkidi viewpoint, causing significant traffic disruptions and stranding hundreds of vehicles. Fortunately, commuters on the route narrowly escaped injury, and firefighting teams from Kalpetta were dispatched to manage the situation.

In conclusion, the restoration of the Thamarassery Pass is critical for the well-being of Wayanad residents, and immediate action is necessary to prevent further disruptions.
