Reports indicate that Alex Bregman has secured a new team with the Boston Red Sox following a challenging period of free agency.

After approximately five months of speculation, Alex Bregman has reportedly secured his next team. The two-time All-Star third baseman has signed a three-year contract with the Boston Red Sox, according to ESPN. Bregman recently earned his first Gold Glove Award with the Houston Astros in 2024 and has posted a batting line of .262/.350/.444 since 2021.

It was reported that Bregman turned down a six-year, $156 million offer to return to the Astros. His name was linked to various trade rumors, including a potential reunion with former manager AJ Hinch at the Detroit Tigers, but negotiations stalled due to ongoing issues with agent Scott Boras.

Bregman was selected second overall in the 2015 MLB Draft by the Astros, where he celebrated two World Series victories, including the controversial 2017 championship, which has been marred by a sign-stealing scandal. Despite this, Bregman contributed to a franchise that reached seven consecutive American League Championship Series, just one shy of the all-time record held by the 1990s Atlanta Braves.

His new contract with the Red Sox is valued at $120 million, giving him an average annual salary of $40 million, which ranks as the fourth-largest in baseball. Bregman will also have the option to opt out after each season. Last season, he hit 26 home runs, his highest total since 2019, and drove in 75 runs, although he recorded a career-low .768 OPS due to a significant drop in walks, finishing with just 44 in a full season.

While Bregman may not be the MVP-caliber player he once was—having led the majors with an 8.9 WAR in 2019—his exceptional bat-to-ball skills and defensive prowess, as evidenced by his Gold Glove Award, remain intact.

The Red Sox finished the previous season with an 81-81 record and have bolstered their roster by adding Garrett Crochet and Walker Buehler to their rotation, along with Aroldis Chapman and Justin Wilson in the bullpen. With the addition of Bregman, the team is poised to be a contender in the upcoming season.
