Tata Advanced Systems secures contract for upgrade and overhaul of Army’s Pinaka systems

**Tata Advanced Systems Partners with Indian Army for Pinaka MLRS Overhaul**

Tata Advanced Systems has secured a significant supply order to assist the 510 Advance Base Workshop (ABW) of the Indian Army in the overhaul and upgrade of first-generation Pinaka Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (MLRS) and Battery Command Posts (BCPs). This partnership, described as a “landmark” public-private collaboration, was officially established during a ceremony in New Delhi on Tuesday.

The initiative aims to utilize Tata Advanced Systems’ technical expertise, certified spare parts, and close collaboration with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to ensure the sustained availability and optimal performance of one of the Indian Army’s key artillery systems. In the initial phase of this collaboration, Tata Advanced Systems and the 510 ABW will conduct a pilot overhaul of selected Pinaka MLRSs and BCPs. Following this, the remaining systems will be overhauled by the 510 ABW, with Tata Advanced Systems providing essential spares, quality assurance, and technical support.

Tata Advanced Systems, which played a crucial role in the design and development of the Pinaka MLRS, highlighted that this artillery system is an all-weather, indirect fire weapon capable of delivering substantial firepower against critical targets. The company also noted that it has achieved “nearly 80% indigenous content,” aligning with India’s goal of self-reliance in the defense sector.

This partnership comes shortly after the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted the first flight test of the LRGR 120, a long-range precision-guided munition for the Pinaka MLRS, demonstrating the system’s maximum range of 120 kilometers.

In conclusion, the collaboration between Tata Advanced Systems and the Indian Army marks a significant step towards enhancing the capabilities of the Pinaka MLRS, ensuring that the Indian Army remains equipped with advanced artillery systems to meet modern defense challenges.
