Patrick Mahomes has debuted a fresh new hairstyle. The Kansas City Chiefs’ star quarterback revealed his haircut over the weekend, marking a significant change from his previous look. Gone is his iconic Mohawk, which had been a hallmark of his image throughout the first eight years of his NFL career. Instead, he now sports a simple cropped style with a fade on the sides.
Mahomes’ barber, DeJuan Bonds, who has been styling the quarterback’s hair since his rookie season in 2017, shared insights with Fox News Digital about the potential reasons behind Mahomes’ decision for such a dramatic transformation. “I think with the end of the season and some frustration, he felt it was time for a change,” Bonds explained. “It was probably a mix of frustration and the realization that it was time for a new look.”
Bonds noted that Mahomes had previously considered a significant haircut when preparing for the birth of his first child, daughter Sterling, in February 2021. However, at that time, Bonds convinced him to stick with the Mohawk, given Mahomes’ success, which included a Super Bowl win and a league MVP award. “He mentioned wanting to change his hairstyle as he entered fatherhood, but we decided it wasn’t the right moment,” Bonds recalled.
After the recent season, Mahomes expressed a desire to “cut it off.” Bonds, drawing from his experience, understood that such statements often don’t reflect a true intention to go for a drastic cut. “When someone says, ‘Cut it off,’ they might not fully mean it,” he said. Had he taken Mahomes’ words literally, the result could have been an extremely short cut, even a skin fade. “I know better than to follow those directions without confirming multiple times,” Bonds added.
Ultimately, Mahomes’ new look reflects a more “adult” and “mature” style, aligning with his evolving identity both on and off the field.
