The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has successfully uncovered an illegal Alprazolam manufacturing facility located in Atchuthapuram, within the Anakapalli district of Andhra Pradesh. This operation led to the seizure of contraband valued at over Rs 23 crore. The DRI acted on specific intelligence, coordinating efforts among officials from Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, and Kakinada to execute the operation.

During the raid, authorities arrested eight individuals, including the alleged mastermind behind the operation, financiers, chemists, and potential buyers. The DRI’s press release detailed the seizure of more than 119 kg of illicit Alprazolam, along with 87 kg of stock that was still in production. Additionally, large quantities of raw materials were confiscated, including 3,600 liters of liquid precursors and 312 kg of solid precursors. The operation also resulted in the recovery of two reactors, a centrifuge, a drier, and various incriminating documents.

The arrested individuals have been placed in judicial custody, with reports indicating that some have prior involvement in narcotics cases and criminal records that include serious offenses such as murder, cybercrimes, and economic offenses. Investigators revealed that the seized Alprazolam was intended for distribution in Telangana, where it was to be used to adulterate toddy.

In a related incident just two weeks prior, police in Anakapalli district intercepted a vehicle at Rachapalli Junction, leading to the seizure of 370 kilograms of ganja valued at nearly Rs 1 crore. Acting on a tip-off from the Elite Anti Narcotics Group of Law Enforcement (Eagle), police stopped a scooty, a Swift Dzire, and an Ertiga, recovering 15 gunny bags of cannabis. Four suspects were arrested, while others managed to evade capture.

This recent crackdown highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat drug-related crimes and the illegal drug trade in the region.
