**Headline:** Government Confirms No Trademark Applications Accepted for “Operation Sindoor”

The Indian government has officially stated that no trademark applications for the terms “Operation Sindoor” or “Ops Sindoor” have been accepted as of now. This clarification was made on Monday in response to inquiries from Member of Parliament Sagarika Ghose during a session in the Rajya Sabha.

Minister of State for Commerce & Industry, Jitin Prasada, informed the House that while there has been a significant increase in filings related to “Operation Sindoor,” none have received approval to date. “No application has been accepted till date and one application has been withdrawn,” the Minister confirmed.

The withdrawn application was submitted by Reliance Industries shortly after the government announced the military operation, which attracted considerable public and media scrutiny. Since May 1, there has been a marked rise in trademark filings for terms such as “Operation Sindoor,” “Ops Sindoor,” and “Mission Sindoor.” Currently, a total of 46 applications are pending, with applicants ranging from private individuals and media producers to food manufacturers and beauty brands.

In addition to direct references to the operation, variations like “Mission Sindoor,” “Sindoor TV,” “Sindoor: The Revenge,” and logo-based marks have also been submitted for registration. The government has indicated that there are no internal advisories or circulars regulating the trademarking of military operation names, and all applications are being processed under the existing provisions of The Trade Marks Act, 1999, and The Trade Marks Rules, 2017.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Defence has formally requested protection for the “Operation Sindoor” logo under the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act, 1950. This legislation prohibits unauthorized commercial use of names and symbols considered to be of national importance, including those associated with the military. If this request is granted, “Operation Sindoor” could be legally recognized as a protected emblem or name, likely leading to the rejection of most, if not all, of the pending trademark applications.

In conclusion, the government’s proactive stance on protecting the integrity of military operation names underscores the importance of national symbols and their appropriate use in commercial contexts.
