The producers of the James Bond franchise have relinquished their creative authority over the series.

Creative control of the iconic James Bond franchise has been transferred to Amazon MGM Studios, in collaboration with the current rights holders. Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, the daughter and stepson of legendary film producer Albert “Cubby” Broccoli—who was instrumental in establishing the Bond franchise—will continue to co-own the intellectual property rights for 007. They also oversee EON Productions, the company responsible for producing Bond films, including hits like Skyfall and Spectre, totaling 25 films since 1962.

This development comes amid speculation regarding the announcement of the next Bond film and the actor who will take on the role. The most recent installment, No Time To Die, was released four years ago to critical acclaim and commercial success, marking Daniel Craig’s final appearance as the beloved spy.

Details about the 26th official Bond film and its new lead have yet to be disclosed. In a statement, Mike Hopkins, head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, expressed their honor in continuing the franchise’s legacy and their eagerness to introduce the next chapter of the legendary 007 to audiences worldwide. Wilson mentioned that after six decades in the franchise, he plans to shift his focus to artistic and charitable endeavors.

Barbara Broccoli reflected on her commitment to preserving and enhancing the remarkable legacy passed down from their father, producer Cubby Broccoli. She noted her privilege in collaborating with four talented actors who portrayed 007 and countless other artists in the industry. With the conclusion of No Time To Die and Wilson’s retirement from the films, she feels it is time to pursue her other projects.

In 2022, Amazon acquired MGM Studios, which distributes the Bond films, for $8.45 billion. Since then, the streaming service has held the rights to distribute all Bond movies.
