Travis Kelce has made it clear that he plans to return for the 2025 NFL season with the Kansas City Chiefs. A significant part of his motivation stems from the desire to address unfinished business following a disappointing loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX—a game that continues to weigh heavily on his mind. In a recent episode of the “New Heights” podcast, the future Hall of Fame tight end expressed his frustration with his performance during the 40-22 defeat, where he recorded only four catches for 39 yards.
“I feel like I owe my teammates a lot more effort and focus,” Kelce shared with his older brother, Jason, while discussing his return for his 13th season. “I just don’t know what happened during that game. I wasn’t at my best. The more I watch the film, the more I think, ‘What the f—?’”
Kelce acknowledged that he has been scrutinizing the game tape to identify his mistakes, despite Jason’s advice to avoid over-analyzing. “That’s how I find motivation,” Travis explained. “That’s how I create the beast. That’s how I flip the switch.”
Clearly determined to unleash that motivation for the 2025 season, Kelce believes he can perform at an even higher level than last year. “I don’t think [Super Bowl LIX] was my best outing,” he admitted. “I feel like I let my teammates down more than I helped them, especially considering my track record in previous years. I have a bad taste in my mouth about how I ended the year and how accountable I was for those around me.”
Travis also highlighted his connection to Kansas City and the community that has embraced him, along with his philanthropic efforts, which have influenced his decision to continue playing. He has one year remaining on his contract with the Chiefs before becoming a free agent in 2026, which would be his age 37 season if he chooses to keep playing.
“I can’t say whether this will be my last year because I still love what I do for the city and the Chiefs organization. I know I have one year left on my contract, and I’m going to give everything I’ve got,” Travis told Chiefs fans.
