Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce mentioned last week on the “New Heights” podcast that he is “kicking everything down the road” concerning his potential retirement. As fans eagerly await his decision, there will be no new episode of “New Heights” this week. The official account for the show announced on social media, “No new episode this week, but WE’LL BE BACK with offseason episodes featuring amazing guests soon.” Typically, episodes are released on Wednesdays, and the show has taken a break after airing their Super Bowl episode.
Following the Chiefs’ victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII, Jason Kelce contemplated retirement before opting to return for another season. The show took nearly a month off before resuming weekly episodes. When Jason eventually retired the following season, it was reported that he had considered retirement multiple times over the years.
After the Chiefs triumphed over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII, the next episode was not released until early March, coinciding with Jason’s official retirement announcement. The post-Super Bowl break allows both Jason and Travis to reflect on retirement away from the public eye. The Chiefs have reportedly given Kelce a soft deadline of “around March 14” to make his decision.
Kelce’s 12th NFL season concluded with the Eagles defeating the Chiefs 40-22 in the Super Bowl. He discussed the challenges of enduring another season and the commitment required. Although Kelce had a productive season with 823 yards and three touchdowns, he showed signs of not being the dominant offensive player he once was. In the Super Bowl, he recorded four catches for 39 yards, all occurring when the game was already out of reach.
