Walmart Inc. is streamlining its workforce by eliminating certain positions and encouraging employees to relocate to its central offices in Arkansas or California, as part of its strategy to consolidate its corporate operations. According to a memo obtained by Bloomberg News, the retailer is requesting that some employees based in Hoboken, New Jersey, and other smaller locations move to its headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas, or Sunnyvale, California. Additionally, Walmart is closing its office in Charlotte, North Carolina, and reducing corporate roles as part of this initiative. A source familiar with the situation indicated that hundreds of positions are being cut. Last year, Walmart had already asked employees in Dallas, Atlanta, and Toronto to transition to larger hubs, with many relocating to the main office in Bentonville. Donna Morris, Walmart’s chief people officer, stated in the memo, “We are making these changes to put key capabilities together, encouraging speed and shared understanding.” The company has begun developing its campus in Bentonville and plans to open new office spaces in Sunnyvale and Bellevue, Washington, later this year.
