Water too frigid: Noida techie’s dad claims officials declined to enter pit, save son

**Tragic Accident in Greater Noida: Young Engineer Dies After Car Plunges into Water Pit**

A tragic incident occurred in Greater Noida’s Sector 150, where 27-year-old software engineer Yuvraj Mehta lost his life after his car fell into a water-filled pit. The victim’s family has expressed their outrage towards emergency responders, claiming that their delayed actions were influenced by the cold water and potential dangers. This incident has raised serious concerns regarding the local administration’s disaster preparedness and emergency response capabilities.

Despite the presence of three departments and around 80 personnel at the scene, no immediate rescue efforts were made to save Yuvraj. His father, Rajkumar Mehta, recounted his harrowing experience upon arriving at the accident site early Saturday morning. He described the poor visibility and his struggle to locate his son’s vehicle, despite repeatedly calling him. “When I called him, he managed to turn on the torchlight of his phone, which allowed us to see a faint light. However, it was extremely difficult for anyone to enter the water,” he told reporters.

Rajkumar further criticized the police and rescue officials, stating that they attempted to throw a rope but were unable to assist effectively. He alleged that rescuers refused to enter the water due to its freezing temperature and the risk of hidden iron rods. He expressed that if expert divers had been deployed, his son might have been saved.

An eyewitness, Moninder, corroborated Rajkumar’s claims, stating that Yuvraj pleaded for help for nearly two hours after the accident. Moninder, a delivery agent, took it upon himself to jump into the pit in a desperate attempt to assist, as he witnessed the rescue workers struggling. “The accident happened around midnight in dense fog. After the car plunged into the pit, the man pleaded for help for nearly two hours. The police, SDRF, and fire brigade were all present, but no one helped him,” he reported.

Moninder recounted his own rescue attempt, explaining that he entered the pit, tied a rope around his waist, and searched for Yuvraj for about 30 minutes but was unable to find him or the vehicle. He left the scene at 5:30 AM, noting that neither Yuvraj nor the car had been recovered by that time.

In response to the incident, the Additional Commissioner of Police in Noida, Rajiv Narayan Mishra, confirmed that a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered based on the family’s complaint. This tragic event has sparked a broader discussion about the effectiveness of emergency response systems and the need for improved disaster preparedness in the region.
