**Zara Closes Its Iconic SoBo Store in South Mumbai After Eight Years**

Fashion brand Zara has officially closed its renowned store in South Mumbai’s Fort area after eight years of operation. The closure was brought to light by netizens who shared a notice posted on the doors of the historic five-storey outlet, which is housed in a 110-year-old building. According to social media reports, the flagship store ceased operations on February 24.

The 51,300-square-foot store, located in the Ismail Building, was Zara’s largest in India and the only independent store in Mumbai, as the brand’s other locations are situated within shopping malls. The notice on the door did not specify the reasons for the closure, simply stating: “Please be informed that this Zara store will cease operations after the end of business on 23rd February. We will continue to assist you all at our Zara stores in Mumbai and at Zara.com/in.”

In 2017, Zara’s parent company, Inditex Trent, reportedly paid an annual rent of ₹30 crore for the location, marking it as the largest lease transaction by a fashion brand at that time. The store opened in 2017 within a heritage-listed building at Hatuma Chowk Square and was a significant addition to the brand’s presence in India.

Zara, owned by Inditex SA, the world’s largest fashion retailer, has been operating in India since 2010 through a joint venture with the Tata Group’s Trent. Currently, Zara maintains three outlets in Mumbai and the neighboring Thane district, including locations in Phoenix Market City (Kurla), Phoenix Palladium (Lower Parel), and Viviana Mall in Thane.
