**Strengthening India’s Air Defence: New QRSAM Regiments on the Horizon**

The Indian Ministry of Defence is poised to enhance the country’s air defence capabilities along the Pakistan border by approving a procurement deal for three new regiments of the indigenous Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missile (QRSAM) systems for the Indian Army. This proposal is set to be reviewed in the upcoming Defence Acquisition Council meeting, scheduled for the fourth week of June.

These advanced systems are intended for deployment along both the western and northern borders adjacent to Pakistan. The QRSAM, which boasts a range of approximately 30 kilometers, is designed to complement existing short-to-medium-range air defence platforms, including the Akash and Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MRSAM) systems currently in operation.

This decision follows the successful execution of Operation Sindoor, during which Indian Army and Air Force air defence units effectively countered incursions by Pakistani aircraft, missiles, and drones. Over a four-day period of cross-border engagements, the Indian Army’s Air Defence units successfully neutralized a significant number of drones using L-70 and Zu-23 air defence guns, alongside the Akash, MRSAM, and the Indian Air Force’s Spider and Sudarshan S-400 systems.

The QRSAM system has undergone rigorous testing and has demonstrated reliable performance in both day and night operational scenarios. In addition to the QRSAM acquisition, the Army Air Defence is also working to bolster its capabilities with new radar systems, very short-range air defence systems, jammers, and laser-based technologies to effectively counter aerial threats, including drones of Turkish and Chinese origin.

As India continues to modernize its military capabilities, the introduction of the QRSAM system represents a significant step towards enhancing national security and ensuring robust air defence along its borders.

**FAQ**

**What is the QRSAM system and its significance for India?**
