The Madhya Pradesh government has reported a tragic toll of 252 fatalities during the ongoing monsoon season, with additional losses including 432 animals and 1,200 poultry birds due to rain-related incidents. Rescue operations across the state have successfully evacuated 3,628 individuals from affected areas, as shared in a video conference led by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav with district collectors.

Currently, 3,065 people are residing in 53 relief camps, which are providing essential services such as food, water, medicines, and clothing to those impacted by the severe weather. To bolster response efforts, the state government has allocated Rs 3,600 crore from the relief fund, with Rs 28.49 crore already distributed through local authorities.

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been deployed in key locations including Bhopal, Gwalior, Jabalpur, and Dhar, while State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams are stationed at vulnerable sites throughout the state. According to government data, the reported 252 deaths include 47 from rain-related incidents, 132 from drowning, 60 from lightning strikes, and 13 due to the collapse of structures.

In total, 432 rescue operations have been conducted, resulting in the successful saving of 94 animals. The relentless rain has also wreaked havoc on homes and infrastructure, with 128 houses completely destroyed and 2,333 suffering partial damage. Additionally, around 254 rural roads have been affected by the heavy rainfall.

So far, Madhya Pradesh has recorded 711.3 mm of rainfall, which is 59 percent above the average, with 40 districts experiencing higher-than-normal precipitation this season. The situation remains critical as the state continues to navigate the challenges posed by the monsoon.
