Minister Shyam Singh Rana advocates for the establishment of biogas plants in every gaushala throughout Haryana.

**Haryana to Establish Biogas Plants in Gaushalas for Sustainability**

Haryana’s Animal Husbandry and Dairying Minister, Shyam Singh Rana, has announced a significant initiative aimed at enhancing the sustainability of cow shelters, known as gaushalas, across the state. During a review meeting held on August 5, 2023, Rana instructed officials to implement biogas plants in all gaushalas, which will not only help in reducing operational costs but also promote self-sufficiency.

The minister emphasized the importance of exploring the production of value-added dairy products within these gaushalas. By doing so, he believes that the public will gain better access to high-quality dairy products while also supporting the economic viability of these shelters.

Rana highlighted the necessity of collaborating with scientists from the National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) in Karnal to leverage modern technologies for breed improvement and increased milk production. He urged officials to maximize the use of NDRI’s expertise to benefit Haryana’s livestock sector.

In addition to these initiatives, Rana reviewed various departmental announcements from the March 2025 state budget. He directed that all proposed initiatives, including interest-free loans of up to ₹1 lakh for women to establish dairy units, the creation of a semen sorting lab for indigenous bull breeds, and the construction of new sheds in registered gaushalas under the Gau Sewa Aayog, be completed within their designated timelines. Other budgetary provisions included the establishment of a Gau Abhyaranya (cow sanctuary), installation of modern diagnostic equipment in veterinary institutions, and the repair of dilapidated veterinary buildings.

Later, Rana, who also oversees Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, convened a meeting with officials from the Haryana State Warehousing Corporation. He urged the Corporation to accelerate the construction of new warehouses with a total capacity of three lakh metric tonnes. Additionally, he stressed the importance of acquiring adjacent land for setting up crop procurement centers, which would help minimize transportation costs and alleviate congestion in local grain markets, known as mandis.

In summary, these initiatives reflect Haryana’s commitment to enhancing the sustainability of its agricultural and dairy sectors, ensuring better resources for farmers and improved access to quality dairy products for consumers.
