David Schwimmer, known for his role in Friends, has urged Elon Musk, the owner of X, to take action against Kanye West following a series of offensive posts made by the rapper, also known as Ye. These posts included derogatory remarks about the Jewish community, with one particularly alarming statement being “I love Hitler” and another declaring, “I’m a Nazi.” West also stated, “I’m never apologising for my Jewish comments.”
On Saturday, Schwimmer, who is Jewish, called for West’s removal from the platform, describing his comments as “hate-filled, ignorant bile.” He expressed his frustration on Instagram, stating, “This is so 2022. We can’t stop a deranged bigot from spewing hate-filled, ignorant bile… but we CAN stop giving him a megaphone, Mr. Musk.”
Schwimmer highlighted the significant reach of West’s platform, noting that he has 32.7 million followers on X, which is more than double the number of Jews in the world. He emphasized the real-life consequences of such hate speech, stating, “His sick hate speech results in REAL LIFE violence against Jews.” He questioned the lack of outrage over West’s identification as a Nazi and called for action, asserting, “Silence is complicity.”
Following Schwimmer’s comments, West continued to post more offensive remarks about Jewish individuals. The Campaign Against Antisemitism has also joined the call for Musk to remove West from X.
West has faced suspensions from his X account multiple times in the past, including a suspension in December 2022 for making antisemitic comments and praising Hitler. Musk had stated that the suspension was due to “incitement to violence.” The account was reinstated in July 2023.
