Stephen A. Smith claims he would choose to divorce Serena Williams in exchange for making a cameo appearance during the Super Bowl halftime show.

Serena Williams made an unexpected appearance during Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl LIX halftime show, where she was seen dancing to “Not Like Us.” Her presence during this particular song ignited discussions on social media, especially since the track is a diss aimed at rapper Drake, whom Williams dated in 2011. Many speculated that her appearance during this performance was intentional, a sentiment echoed by ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith.

On the Monday edition of “First Take,” Smith expressed that if he were Williams’ husband, he would consider leaving her for participating in what he perceived as trolling her ex. He remarked, “If I’m married and my wife is going to join trolling her ex, go back to him, ‘cause clearly you don’t belong with me,” prompting laughter from his co-hosts.

Williams is married to Alexis Ohanian, co-founder of Reddit, and they have two daughters together. Co-host Ryan Clark humorously countered Smith’s comments, saying, “If you were with Serena Williams, you’re going to be a kept man anyways. Don’t start that.”

The rivalry between Lamar and Drake is well-known, with Lamar’s “Not Like Us” winning multiple Grammy awards, including Song of the Year and Record of the Year. Additionally, SZA joined Lamar during the performance, and she confirmed her relationship with Drake after he referenced it in the song “Mr. Right Now,” featuring 21 Savage and Metro Boomin.

Despite the potential for trolling, Williams and Lamar share a connection through their upbringing in Compton, California. Legendary actor Samuel L. Jackson also made an appearance during the performance, portraying “Uncle Sam” as Lamar transitioned between songs.
