Democratic National Committee (DNC) Vice Chair David Hogg faced backlash on social media after criticizing former President Donald Trump’s appearance at the Daytona 500. Trump attended the event at Daytona International Speedway, making history as the first president to participate in the race twice. He was seen in the presidential limousine, “The Beast,” leading drivers on a pace lap before the race began and delivering a personal message to the competitors.
Hogg took to social media to label Trump’s attendance as a “publicity stunt,” stating, “Driving in circles for a multi-million dollar publicity stunt while claiming you care so much about ‘efficiency’ as thousands are illegally fired from their jobs and prices continue to climb is the perfect symbolism for the Trump administration.”
The DNC official’s comments drew criticism from various users online. Hogg recently assumed the role of DNC vice chair and gained prominence as a survivor of the 2018 Parkland school shooting. He founded a political action committee in 2023 aimed at supporting young progressive candidates for Congress and state legislatures.
During his appearance at the race, Trump praised NASCAR drivers for their courage, telling FOX Sports, “They have a lot of guts, as they would say.” He also highlighted the progress of the United States since the beginning of his second term, expressing optimism about the country’s future. “I think it’s fantastic. I think it’s great for the country,” he remarked, emphasizing the renewed spirit he believes is present across the nation.
