Caitlin Clark has been compared to Taylor Swift by the new Fever coach, Stephanie White.

The rapid ascent of Caitlin Clark’s fame, both on and off the court, has led new Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White to draw a striking comparison. “She’s very much Taylor Swift 2.0,” White remarked in a Q&A. Clark’s notoriety surged during her time at Iowa, where she became the NCAA’s all-time leading Division I scorer for both men and women, and it only intensified after she was selected first overall by the Fever this past season.

Clark went on to earn Rookie of the Year honors and secure a spot on the WNBA All-Star team, shattering numerous rookie and league records along the way. Ultimately, she was named TIME’s Athlete of the Year. With her rising fame, Clark has encountered scrutiny both on and off the court, with every action closely examined by observers. White attributes Clark’s ability to handle this swift rise in celebrity while remaining committed to her sport as the reason for the comparison to the global pop icon.

“I think first and foremost, she does an outstanding job of managing it all,” White explained. “She’s incredibly humble and understands the big picture. She recognizes her celebrity status, but she’s also a Midwest kid who strives to live authentically. She’s very much Taylor Swift 2.0.”

Since her hiring in November 2024, White has emphasized the importance of her and her staff’s role in “protecting” Clark as her celebrity continues to expand. “From my perspective, and from our staff and franchise, it’s about how we help her navigate this. How do we help her maintain her peace? It can be overwhelming. We want to be a resource for her, especially with the current landscape of social media and fan engagement.”

The comparison between Clark and Swift feels fitting, especially given their recent public appearances together. They were seen enjoying a Kansas City Chiefs playoff game in a suite at Arrowhead Stadium, and Clark has attended multiple stops on Swift’s Eras Tour, showcasing her admiration for the artist.

White also highlighted Clark’s offseason dedication, noting her commitment to becoming a “stronger” point guard. “She’s very self-aware,” White said. “She quickly realized that she needed to get stronger to withstand the physicality of the game. She’s been diligent in the weight room, focusing on her strength and overall conditioning. The next step is efficiency.
