Hockey stars from the USA and Canada, who have previously clashed on the ice, exchanged subtle taunts as they prepare for the final of the 4 Nations tournament.

In a thrilling showdown on Saturday night, Team USA’s three fights against Team Canada unfolded in just nine seconds, all sparked by a group chat. Brady Tkachuk, who participated in the second fight just after his brother Matthew engaged, disclosed that the Tkachuk brothers and JT Miller had coordinated their fights earlier that day. Brady faced off against Matthew’s Florida Panthers teammate, Sam Bennett.

During a press conference on Tuesday, Brandon Hagel, who fought Matthew, took a playful jab at the group chat strategists, stating he fought “for the flag” and “not the cameras.” He also insinuated that his Canadian teammates “don’t have any group chats.”

Matthew responded to Hagel’s comments on Wednesday, quipping, “Maybe their team doesn’t like each other, then, if they don’t have group chats.”

The rivalry between the two nations, which has intensified over the years, is set to reach new heights as they prepare to clash again on Thursday night in Boston for the 4 Nations Face Off final.

The fights erupted shortly after the Canadian crowd booed “The Star-Spangled Banner,” a reaction that reflects the ongoing political tensions between the two countries. This booing has become a trend at recent sporting events, particularly following President Donald Trump’s tariffs on Canada, which have since been paused. The president has also playfully suggested the idea of Canada becoming the “51st state.”

Despite the tumultuous atmosphere, Team USA secured a 3-1 victory on Saturday, overcoming an early goal from Canada’s Connor McDavid. Following the fights, USA’s defense proved formidable, preventing Canada from scoring again.
