Coursera views India as the biggest potential for growth in its enterprise business.

**Coursera’s Enterprise Growth in India**

India has become the largest opportunity for Coursera Inc.’s enterprise business, ranking as one of the two fastest-growing markets for the global upskilling leader, alongside West Asia. According to Karine Allouche, vice president and general manager of enterprise business at Coursera, the company’s enterprise segment, which serves businesses, universities, and governments, is gaining significant traction in India.

Allouche noted that no other country possesses the same demographic advantages as India, and many governments have not advanced their digitalization efforts to the same extent. “In most countries, you don’t see 40% of credits being delivered online,” she added.

Coursera, under the leadership of CEO Jeff Maggioncalda, operates two main segments: business-to-consumer (B2C) and business-to-business (B2B). The B2C segment includes online courses and degrees, while the enterprise business encompasses three subcategories: Coursera for Campus, Coursera for Business, and Coursera for Government. Notably, Coursera for Campus has excelled, with nearly 30% of its global campus customers located in India, highlighting its success in the region.

In 2024, Coursera’s B2B segment accounted for approximately 34% of its total revenue, an increase from 29% in 2021. Conversely, the B2C segment, while still the largest contributor, saw its share decrease from 59% in 2021 to 57% in 2024. Allouche emphasized that India is an exception to the global revenue distribution for Coursera, with the enterprise segment representing a larger portion than the consumer business, although specific revenue figures for India were not disclosed.

India also ranks as Coursera’s second-largest consumer market, boasting 28 million registered users as of December 2024, second only to the US. In fact, India recorded the highest enrollments on the platform in 2024, surpassing the US.

The rising demand for artificial intelligence (AI) and generative AI courses has further accelerated Coursera’s growth in India. Since June 2023, the company has intensified its efforts to provide AI-related courses in local languages. Consequently, enrollments in generative AI courses have quadrupled from 2023 to 2024, with India leading at approximately 1.3 million enrollments, nearly half of which are from enterprise learners. The flourishing enterprise upskilling market in India has also prompted other players to enter the space.
