**Title: Tesla’s Success in Canada Sparks Mixed Reactions Amid Citizenship Controversy**
In light of growing calls from Canadian citizens to revoke Elon Musk’s Canadian citizenship, a recent report has underscored Tesla’s expanding presence in the country. This development elicited a humorous response from Paytm founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma, who remarked, “Canada loves Musk,” in a brief post on X. He shared another post detailing Tesla’s impressive business performance under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s administration.
The shared post revealed that Tesla achieved a remarkable 8,600 electric vehicle sales within just 72 hours, generating over $43 million in rebates during the final days of the iZEV rebate program. According to records from Transport Canada, four Tesla stores across the nation reported this record-breaking sales figure, coinciding with the announcement that the $5,000 iZEV rebate program was nearing depletion. This program, which provided discounts to electric vehicle buyers, has since been discontinued. Notably, over 4,000 Tesla vehicles were sold in Quebec City alone during a single weekend.
While Sharma’s comment suggests a positive sentiment towards Musk in Canada, it contrasts sharply with the increasing demand among Canadians to revoke the billionaire’s citizenship. A petition launched in February has garnered hundreds of thousands of signatures, accusing Musk of actions detrimental to Canada’s national interests and sovereignty. The petition claims that Musk has “used his wealth and power to influence our elections” and has aligned himself with a foreign government that threatens Canadian sovereignty.
In response to the controversy, Musk stated on Tuesday that he identifies as “simply an American.” He clarified his background, noting, “I grew up as English South African, not Afrikaans, and consider myself to be simply an American. No hyphen.”
