**Headline:** Tragic Honor Killing: 18-Year-Old Woman from Gujarat Murdered by Family

In a shocking incident from Gujarat’s Banaskantha district, an 18-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her father and two uncles in what is suspected to be an honor killing. Just hours before her tragic death on June 24, she sent a desperate text to her boyfriend, pleading for help: “Come and save me otherwise they will get me married.” The victim, who was in a live-in relationship, lived in constant fear of her family’s reaction to her choice of partner.

Her final message conveyed her desperation: “Come and take me away, otherwise my family will get me married against my will. If I refuse, they will kill me. Save me.” Tragically, her body was discovered shortly after she sent this message.

Following the discovery of her body, her live-in partner filed a police complaint. A senior police official confirmed that her father and uncle were implicated in the crime, with one uncle arrested while her father remains at large. On August 6, based on the complaint, local police charged Sendhabhai Patel, the victim’s father, and Shivrambhai Patel, her uncle, with murder due to their opposition to her relationship.

Investigations revealed that the young woman was killed at her uncle’s house in Dantiya village. She was reportedly given milk laced with sleeping pills before being strangled. The perpetrators then performed her last rites the following morning to conceal their crime.

Despite her life being tragically cut short, the young woman had recently passed the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), a competitive exam for medical college admission, although it remains unclear whether she aspired to become a doctor or a nurse.

In a heartbreaking twist, her partner was incarcerated at the time of her final messages and was unable to respond. He later filed a habeas corpus petition, but by the time the hearing was scheduled, the young woman had already passed away. On June 25, just two days before the hearing, he learned of her death and the subsequent performance of her last rites.

According to the FIR, the victim’s father and uncle had conspired to kill her, fearing she might elope with her partner again. This tragic case underscores the severe consequences of familial opposition to personal relationships in certain cultural contexts.
