A doctor in Uttar Pradesh has turned himself in several months after two engineers lost their lives as a result of a poorly executed hair transplant procedure.

Dr Anushka Tiwari, accused in connection with two deaths following botched hair transplant surgeries in Kanpur, surrendered in lower court on Monday and was subsequently sent to jail. The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate remanded her to 14 days of judicial custody, rendering her anticipatory bail plea — scheduled for hearing on June 2 — ineffective.”We were ready with the evidence which proved her complicity in the crime. Now her anticipatory bail plea stands infructuous as she has been sent to 14-day judicial custody,” District Government Advocate, Dilip Awasthi said.advertisementThe case pertains to the deaths of two engineers, Vineet Dubey and Mayank, who had undergone hair transplants at Dr Tiwari’s clinic. Vineet, a diabetic and hypertensive patient, reportedly developed complications after the surgery and died on May 15, a day after being admitted to the hospital. His family accused Dr Tiwari of medical negligence and filed a complaint.Following this, another case surfaced involving Mayank, an engineer from Farrukhabad, who had undergone a hair transplant at the same clinic on November 18, 2024. He died the next day. His family, citing similarities with Vineet’s case, also approached the police. In the aftermath of the complaints, Dr Tiwari went incommunicado. Police launched a multi-state search operation over the last two weeks, conducting raids across Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Haryana. Her mobile location was traced to Rohtak and Panipat, but she remained untraceable until her surrender in Kanpur.advertisementDuring an earlier hearing before the Additional District Judge, Dr Tiwari denied performing the surgeries herself, claiming that the procedures were conducted by another doctor, Manish Singh, a resident of Barra. However, government counsel Awasthi countered that Dr Tiwari had conducted the surgeries herself, exceeding her qualifications and scope of practice.A preliminary inquiry by a committee appointed by the Chief Minister’s Office found that standard pre-operative protocols were not followed in Vineet’s case. His pre-existing medical conditions were allegedly ignored, and no requisite tests were conducted prior to surgery. Doctors later stated that Vineet developed a bacterial brain infection, which led to encephalopathy and death. The clinic where the procedures were carried out is registered in the name of Dr Tiwari’s husband, Dr Saurabh. Authorities have since cancelled the clinic’s registration due to regulatory non-compliance.Police are continuing their investigation and gathering documents related to both deaths. in a formal or creative style for better SEO.Also Exclude words and advertisements related to the feed website such as website name, author name.
