**Title: Indian Edtech Sector Shifts Towards Hybrid Models Post-Pandemic**

Online-based edtech companies are increasingly adopting hybrid models and, in some instances, collaborating with traditional educational institutions to enhance their credibility. As the initial surge in demand from the pandemic subsides, Indian edtech firms are anticipated to blend conventional educational methods with modern technology, according to executives from GSV Ventures.

Deborah Quazzo, managing partner at GSV Ventures, noted that the learning and skills ecosystem is evolving beyond just edtech. It now encompasses large educational institutions, universities, and corporate entities, highlighting the need for a more comprehensive approach to education.

This transition comes after a significant post-pandemic boom that propelled companies like Byju’s, Unacademy, and Physics Wallah into prominence. However, five years later, the edtech landscape is experiencing a downturn, exacerbated by the decline of industry leader Byju’s, which has deterred investors. Data from analytics firm Tracxn indicates that total fundraising in the sector reached $608.9 million in 2024, a slight recovery from $245.8 million in 2023, but a stark contrast to the $4.1 billion raised in 2021.

Quazzo emphasized that the challenges faced by certain edtech models, such as Byju’s, stemmed from external factors rather than inherent issues within the education sector. She expressed concern for founders who believed they had secured their futures through acquisitions, only to see their prospects diminish.

Companies like Tynker, Great Learning, Geogebra, and Aakash Institute are now grappling with the aftermath of being acquired during Byju’s aggressive expansion phase in 2021. Michael Moe, founder of GSV Ventures, remarked on the cyclical nature of sectors with strong fundamentals, cautioning investors to remain vigilant as the market adjusts.

As the edtech ecosystem matures, the integration of traditional and innovative educational approaches is becoming increasingly vital for sustained growth and credibility.
