Andhra Pradesh is making significant investments in clean energy, aiming for a capacity of 72 gigawatts by the year 2029.

**Andhra Pradesh Advances Renewable Energy Initiatives with Major Project Launch**

Andhra Pradesh is making significant strides in its renewable energy sector with the inauguration of a substantial infrastructure project aimed at establishing the state as a leader in clean energy within India. On Friday, Nara Lokesh, the State Minister for Information Technology and Renewable Energy, laid the foundation stone for the ReNew Renewable Energy Complex in Anantapur. This ambitious project, valued at ₹22,000 crore, represents one of the largest investments in renewable energy in the state’s history.

The ReNew Renewable Energy Complex, which marks the company’s return to Andhra Pradesh after a six-year hiatus, will encompass a total capacity of 4.8 GW, integrating solar, wind, and battery storage technologies. During the ceremony, Lokesh emphasized the project’s significance, stating, “Today, we are not just laying a foundation stone — we are laying the cornerstone of India’s clean energy revolution.”

This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance renewable energy capacity across Andhra Pradesh. At the Renewable Energy Invest Summit held in 2024, the state announced an ambitious target of achieving 72 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy capacity by 2029. Lokesh characterized this mission as “bold, urgent, and necessary.”

The announcement follows the State Investment Promotion Board’s (SIPB) approval of 19 new projects worth ₹33,720 crore, which are expected to create approximately 34,621 jobs across various sectors, including energy, tourism, IT, and electronics. Since the new government took office, SIPB has approved 76 projects totaling ₹4.95 trillion, projected to generate around 450,000 jobs.

A significant focus of this renewable energy plan is the Rayalaseema region in southern Andhra Pradesh, where a majority of recent clean energy investments are being directed, positioning it as a future clean energy hub. Over the past eight months, Andhra Pradesh has secured major commitments from several firms, including Tata Power (₹49,000 crore for 7,000 MW), NTPC Green Hydrogen (₹1.86 lakh crore project), Vedanta Sarantika (₹50,000 crore for 10,000 MW), Sal Industries (₹6,000 crore for 1,200 MW), and Brookfield (₹50,000 crore for 8,000 MW).

Lokesh credited the state’s progress to the leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, highlighting the Integrated Clean Energy Policy launched in October 2024 as a “blueprint for India’s green revolution.” He praised Naidu’s long-term vision, stating, “Sri Nara Chandrababu Naidu Garu is not merely building roads and infrastructure; he is building highways to the future.” Lokesh concluded by asserting, “Andhra Pradesh is not just adapting to change — it is driving and creating it.”
