**Bill Gates Reflects on His Drug Experimentation in Memoir**
In his memoir, *Source Code*, Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft, candidly discusses his youthful experimentation with drugs, revealing that he tried substances like LSD and marijuana primarily to impress girls. However, a frightening experience with LSD led him to abandon drug use altogether.
Gates recounts his teenage years, during which he experimented with LSD several times. He humorously shares an incident where he attempted to call a girl using his toes to dial the phone. Despite his efforts to appear cool by smoking marijuana, he admits that it ultimately “didn’t work out.”
Reflecting on his LSD use, Gates mentions that he tried the drug “four or five times,” with the last experience occurring when he was 21. He emphasizes that he does not recommend such experimentation, stating, “Even though you think some of your thoughts are profound, in retrospect, they’re not.”
Gates describes a particularly alarming moment during an LSD trip when he feared he could erase his memories, likening the brain to a computer that can delete files. This panic prompted him to reconsider his drug use, leading him to check his memories the following day while showering. Ultimately, this experience solidified his decision to give up LSD for good.
