Craig Carton discusses the acceptance of sports betting as a common practice and emphasizes the importance of being transparent with friends and family regarding issues related to gambling addiction.

Every year, millions of people place bets on the Super Bowl, and occasionally, some bettors go too far. Currently, thirty-nine states, with Missouri recently becoming the 40th, along with the District of Columbia, permit legal wagering. The upcoming Super Bowl featuring the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles presents an ideal opportunity for Craig Carton, a recovering gambling addict and responsible gaming consultant for FanDuel, to promote the importance of responsible betting.

Carton, who co-hosts Fox Sports’ “Breakfast Ball,” has been candid about his struggles with gambling addiction. He has been gambling-free for seven years, and his five-year collaboration with FanDuel has conveyed a message that has resonated with many. “I frequently receive messages from people who have heard my story and learned about my partnership with FanDuel, asking how we can assist,” he shared. “There’s a small percentage of individuals who genuinely need help and cannot gamble responsibly. I believe we are beginning to see the positive outcomes of our efforts over the past four years, as more people are becoming aware of the signs of uncontrollable gambling.”

Carton expresses gratitude for his ongoing partnership with FanDuel, noting that the messaging is effective and that people are utilizing the resources available. He emphasizes that this collaboration not only aids those struggling with gambling but also benefits him personally as he hears stories from others. “For many, Gamblers Anonymous is the only solution,” he remarked. “I attended GA, and it works well for most. For me, engaging with new individuals about problem gambling and recovery is incredibly therapeutic.”

Through his new show “The Comeback” on FanDuel and “Hello, My Name is Craig” on Audacy and WFAN in New York City, Carton finds a sense of community and healing. “Hearing others share their recovery stories and their lowest moments is, selfishly, very beneficial for me,” he noted.

Carton advocates for responsible gaming, especially as it becomes increasingly normalized across the country, raising concerns about the younger generation. “This is the demographic we are most concerned about because 21-year-olds are still young and may not fully understand the value of money. It’s crucial to ensure they receive adequate information in a formal or creative manner.
